Is a fetus REALLY a person?

Hello,

In the next few lines I'd like to address one of the big questions
regarding abortion.

Is a fetus really a person?

I can't count how many times I've been asked this question, and it's
never an easy one to answer.

I have my own beliefs, just as everyone else has theirs.

The Bible is often brought into the discussion, as many of us grew up
being brought to a church of one kind or another.

However, specifically the Bible never delves into the topic of
abortion. Does that mean biblically we have the right to choose? I
think it does.

Yes, the Bible forbids killing, however throughout both the old and
new testaments, God commands his followers to kill people of all
kinds. It can leave you a bit confused.

Abortion instruments have been found dating back to pre-Biblical
times. By the time of Jesus, the Romans and Greeks were routinely
practicing abortions for various reasons.

In the Bible, the Hebrew phrase for 'person' is 'nephesh'. Strictly
translated it means 'a creature that breathes'.

By following this definition, a fetus is not a person. Now, this does
not mean that it does not have the capability of becoming a person,
but the Hebrew term plainly does not refer to a fetus.

I hope that this has given you something to think about if you decide
to terminate.

This is no small decision and we'll be there all the way to ensure
that it's the right decision for you.
