Infertility: What it is and the treatments available for it

Hey,

Today I'd like to talk about infertility in women and what can be
done about it.

Infertility is simply the inability for a couple to become
pregnant. About 10% of the population of the USA suffers from this.
As age increases the likelyhood of infertility increases as well.

There are a few common factors that are known to cause infertility:

*Damage to the fallopian tubes
*Hormonal issues
*Cervical conditions

About 20% of all cases are currently unexplainable.

There are 5 common treatments for infertility.

*Laproscopy - Surgery to reconstruct the fallopian tubes or other
damaged reproductive organs

*Medical therapy - Chemicals are often intruduced that have been
known to induce ovulation

*Intrauterine insemination - Semen is collected, washed, and then
inserted into the uterus during ovulation

*In virto fertilization - The woman's eggs are fertilized outside
of the body and inserted back into the uterus

*Oocyte donation - Eggs are removed from a donor and given to a
patient who has undergone ovarian stimulation through drugs

Medical therapies have highly increased the chance of pregnancy for
women who are infertile for one reason or another. Talk with your
doctor to learn more about the possible treatments if you're having
trouble getting pregnant.
